Installing Your Above-Ground Trampoline In-Ground in Pueblo and Colorado Springs, Colorado

Can it be done?

While there are some excellent in-ground trampoline options (like above), some people choose to install traditional trampolines in-ground. Is this exciting new way of installing backyard trampolines be the right choice for you? Let’s explore the pros and cons of sinking an above ground trampoline in-ground, why people are choosing this over keeping it above ground.

In-Ground Trampolines: A Choice Made Strictly for Aesthetics

In most cases, a backyard trampoline is an extremely noticeable addition to your landscape. Until now, there’s just been no easy way to hide them! So, when someone opts for an in ground trampoline over a traditional above ground one, it’s typically for this reason alone.

This type of installation involves building the trampoline above ground and then lowering it into an area that has been excavated for this purpose. This well is typically 3-4 feet deep. It’s important to note, though, that your safety net and its frame will still be raised above the ground with a traditional, above-ground trampoline.

We work with Landscapers!

Be sure to call a few landscape companies for quotes. We can sell and install the trampoline, but you will need to find a company to dig the pit and build the retaining wall. We are always happy to coordinate with the landscape company.

The Disadvantages of In-Ground Trampoline Installation

In general, if you want an in-ground trampoline, look at one designed specifically to go in-ground. Unless it is done precicely,  when you install an above-ground trampoline in ground trampoline, you’ll lose some of the features you love most. Here are a few of the issues you might see in this case:

Disadvantages of putting an above-ground Trampoline, in-ground
  • Loss of Bounce: Due to the lack of airflow beneath your trampoline, you will also notice that the surface is not quite as bouncy as an above-ground installation. Unfortunately, you may not realize this until after the installation is complete.
  • Questionable Safety: It may seem safer to have jumpers closer to the ground, but that’s simply not the case. The retaining wall that is required for this type of installation can be considered a hazard itself, and it’s also possible for jumpers to get their hands or feet caught in the space between the trampoline and retaining wall. For this reason, we still recommend installing the safety enclosure on in-ground trampolines.
  • Time for Installation: In-ground trampoline installations take significantly longer to complete than traditional installations (which can take as little as a couple of hours).
  • Cost of Installation: The cost of an in-ground trampoline installation is much higher than a traditional trampoline installation. It’s important to ask for a detailed estimate for both types in order to understand the difference in cost. The average cost to dig a pit and build a proper retaining wall cost between $6,000 and $8,000.
